Robert Nippoldt is not only an illustrator and book artist, but also an entertainer - with a soft spot for the 1920s. In his graphics and books, he brings to life scenes of jazz music and vibrant metropolises such as Berlin, New York and Hollywood. His images have appeared in The New Yorker and TIME Magazine, among others, and have won numerous international awards.

I always wanted to be a rock star. But it doesn't go down well with my family when I come home late with five groupies. That's why I opted for a bourgeois existence as an illustrator and bookworm. Motifs from the 1920s sell pretty well. That's why I've just done the fifth book on the Roaring Twenties. Amazingly, I've won over two dozen national and international awards for it. But that hardly makes me happy anymore. Lately, I've been sneaking out of the house more and more often to secretly conquer the stages of the world with my stage show "Ein Rätselhafter Schimmer". I have already come as far as Greven/Westphalia. I wonder when Carnegie Hall will call?

"Rarely has one held a book in one's hands that appears so accomplished and aesthetically attractive in its artistic design and at the same time captures the actual subject matter, jazz and its time, with such stylistic confidence. "
– Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung about the jazz book read article

"Hollywood in the 30s is a perfectly staged illustrated book that convinces visually and in terms of content all along the line. Or to put it another way: it is as beautiful as Garbo, as elegant as Fred Astaire, and as lively as the Marx Brothers. This epoch has certainly never been portrayed so light-footedly, so vividly, so wittily, but above all so originally. ".
– Deutschlandradio Kultur about the Hollywood book read article

"As lovingly as a butterfly collector, Robert Nippoldt has compiled the biographies of 33 villains. "
